In this 45 minute session, we alternate between practicing Yoga Nidra and Restorative Yoga each week and/or depending on the needs of participants. Both Nidra and Restorative classes include some stretchy movement in order to help folks settle :)
Yoga Nidra sometimes known as the “yoga of sleep,” moves through several layers of meditation in order to deepen one’s relaxation state, bit by bit. Nidra practices can include a mindful body scan, breath awareness, visualization, and more. Yoga Nidra can be a useful sleep aide for some, while others feel energized by the practice. As this yoga is often practiced lying down, supporting oneself with props–household or otherwise–can be helpful. Participants are welcome to sit up and/or explore positions as they feel comfortable. Restorative Yoga is a restful yoga practice often supported by props in held poses. Participants gain benefits from this held poses by releasing tension, focusing on their breath, and generally slowing down/being present. At times Anna teaches this is a bit of Yin practice which marries the held poses with targeting deeper tissues in the body and of course anchored by the breath! |
